    About 1985 Sacramento Original Blend

Java City’s story began in 1985, roasting coffee in a small brick building in Midtown Sacramento.  As word spread about our uncommonly smooth coffee, the brick building on the corner of 18th and Capitol became both a roasting facility and bustling cafe.  Throughout the late 1980’s and into the early 2010’s, Java City was the place for artists, authors and poets to gather and converse while sipping their favorite coffee.

1985 Sacramento Original Blend pays tribute to the baristas and coffee lovers that have brewed and enjoyed Java City Coffee for nearly 40 years.  While the original cafe is merely a memory, we’re still here in Sacramento, roasting coffee as uncommonly smooth today as it was in 1985.

The Nicaraguan beans used in Ladies To The Front come to us from Tierra Madre, and are grown and processed by women coffee farmers in Jinotega who receive a premium based on coffee that meets a high-quality standard.  The premium assists the women to obtain legal title to their land, key to accessing micro-credit loans for production and other economic activities that permit a better quality of life.

Ladies To The Front is roasted and packed solely by women at Java City in Sacramento.

For every bag of Ladies To The Front sold, $1 goes to a scholarship fund to help further the education goals of women graduates of the coffee training re-entry program at Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center in Sacramento County.  The re-entry program provides women with skills to help them successfully re-enter the community.  Graduates of the program currently work in the coffee industry in the Sacramento area as baristas and roasters.
