At Java City, 100% of our coffee beans come through farmer-owned cooperatives. These co-ops represent meaningful coffee farming partnerships—communities where farmers set fair prices for their coffee, invest in their land, and reinvest in schools, clinics, and housing for their neighbors.

Building a Better Community in Colombia
Take Concordia, Antioquia, Colombia, where coffee farmer Cristina Garcés and her family have been growing coffee for over 65 years. On their farm, more than 500 workers care for coffee trees planted on steep mountain slopes, some as high as 1,950 meters above sea level.
Through the support of The Coffee Farmer’s Co-op and partnerships like ours, Cristina’s community has been able to:
- Build schools and nurseries for children.
- Provide food for elderly neighbors and students living away from home.
- Support housing improvements for farming families.
- Invest in wet mills, warehouses, and coffee equipment to improve quality and sustainability.
Farming With Care
Cristina and her team are deeply committed to sustainability. They practice agroforestry, use solar energy in their wet mill, and even experiment with drones to fertilize and protect their crops. They’re also careful stewards of the land, protecting natural water sources and native plants around the farm.
Every detail matters, even how quickly coffee is processed after being picked. At Cristina’s farm, fresh cherries travel through specially built coffee ducts to the mill, ensuring they never sit out in the sun. That kind of attention to freshness results in a brighter, smoother cup for you.
A Relationship That Lasts
Cristina describes her relationship with Java City in one word: trust. For over three decades, we’ve partnered with her co-op and other farmers like her—not just to buy coffee, but to build futures together.
“It means all… hope and trust. The certainty that you understand how it is to be a grower. You care for us. Thanks to you, we have built schools, nurseries, new houses, and fed the elderly and students in our town.”
Your Role in the Story
When you grab a coffee between classes, you’re directly part of this story. You’re supporting families who have tended coffee for generations, children who now have classrooms to learn in, and entire communities that are thriving because of strong partnerships.
Your cup really is their future. And together, we’re proving that coffee can change lives from the mountains of Colombia to your cup of coffee.
